The newly revealed Sakamoto Days live-action movie showcases a fresh visual highlighting Taro Sakamoto’s slimmer appearance.
Additionally, it has been confirmed that Japanese actor Ren Meguro will portray the lead role of the former assassin, with Yuichi Fukuda (noted for directing the Gintama live-action film) taking on the roles of both director and writer for this action comedy.
The initial Sakamoto Days manga, created by Yuto Suzuki, launched in 2020 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump and has published 23 volumes by August 2025. According to Viz Media, the story is summarized as follows:
Time has flowed smoothly for Sakamoto since he distanced himself from the criminal world. He operates a local shop alongside his beautiful wife and child and has become a little…out of shape. However, one day, an individual from his past appears with a proposal he cannot turn down: return to the assassin life or face death!
A series adaptation in anime format was released, with the first cour starting in January 2025, and Cour 2 debuted during the Summer 2025 anime season. Netflix has the streaming rights for the anime.
