This article examines the history of marriage in Japan, the factors influencing it, and its current trends. It found that the average marrying age for women is 26 and for men is 29, significantly higher than previous generations. Factors contributing to this include rising living costs, changing social attitudes towards marriage and increasing educational opportunities for women. The trend has had both positive and negative impacts on Japanese society such as more time for self-development but also lower birthrates.
