Do you have to wear a bra in Japan?
This article provides an in-depth look at the Japanese dress code and explores the question of whether women have to wear a bra in Japan. It is noted that there is no law or rule requiring women to wear bras, however some establishments may have their own dress codes which require them to do so. Alternatives such as bandeaus, adhesive/sticky bras and bralettes are available for those who don't want/need traditional underwire support. Additionally, it is recommended to cover up the chest area when visiting temples or shrines out of respect for these places of worship.
