This article examines the history of warfare in Japan, from ancient times to World War II and beyond. It explores the various wars and conflicts that Japan has been involved in, as well as the impact of defeat on Japanese culture and society. It is noted that while there have been some victories throughout its long history, there have also been some defeats suffered by Japanese forces at war - most notably during WWII when they surrendered following atomic bombings by U S forces earlier that month. Since then, Tokyo has shifted away from engaging directly in offensive warfare instead focusing more heavily on providing humanitarian aid or peacekeeping operations around world.
