This article provides an overview of how long a non-citizen can live in Japan, as well as the different types of visas available. Temporary Visitor Visa allows visitors to stay up to 90 days, while Working Holiday Visa, Student Visa and Dependent/Spouse Visa allow holders up to 1 year, 1 year and 2 years respectively. In addition, Long Term Residency Status (LTRS) grants permanent residence rights provided certain conditions are met. All applications require proof that applicants have sufficient funds available during their residency period.
