This article explores the traditional family structure in Japan, which is based on strong cultural values such as respect for elders and a focus on education. Children typically live with their parents until they reach adulthood, usually when they graduate from university or college. Factors such as economic conditions, social norms, educational pursuits, cultural beliefs, and personal preferences all play an important role in determining how long a child lives with his/her parent(s). Statistics released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in 2019 showed that around 4 million adults aged 20-34 were still living with their parents at that time.
