What is the number one crime in Japan?
The 2018 White Paper on Crime released by the Japanese Ministry of Justice reveals that theft and burglary are the most common type of crime in Japan, accounting for 37% out of all reported cases. Other types of crimes include fraud, robbery, assault, drug-related offenses, arson and murder/manslaughter. Poverty and substance abuse can be major factors contributing to these crimes, leading to an increased financial burden on businesses and insurance companies as well as an increased police presence. Prevention strategies such as installing surveillance cameras, hiring security guards and establishing youth outreach programs have been implemented in order to combat this issue.
