This article looks at the legal driving age in Japan and what requirements must be met in order to drive a car at 16 years old. The legal age to obtain a driver’s license is 18 years old, however it is possible to obtain a provisional license at 16 with certain restrictions such as completing an approved driving school course, passing tests, having parental or guardian permission and having no major traffic violations or accidents on record for 6 months prior. It also looks at the legal drinking age in Japan which is 20 years old, and some restrictions placed on drivers under 18 such as curfew hours and passenger limits.
