Yuri, also known as Girls' Love or GL, is a popular genre of Japanese media that focuses on romantic relationships between female characters. It has its roots in shoujo manga from the 1970s and 1980s which featured strong female characters. The word “yuri” is derived from two Japanese words: “yuru” which means “lily” and “ri” which means “reason” or “logic”.
