This article explores the various periods of Japanese history from 14,000 BC to 1867. It covers the Jomon period, Yayoi period, Heian period, Kamakura period, Muromachi period, Sengoku period and Edo period. During these times there was an influx of new technologies, cultures and ideas which helped shape modern day Japan. Major events such as the rise of bushido and Zen Buddhism are also discussed.
