Did Japan have Middle Ages?

This article examines the history of Japan in order to determine whether it experienced a Middle Ages like Europe did. Through exploring the various eras of Japan, it is concluded that no, Japan did not have a Middle Ages. While there were some cultural similarities between these two regions, the political systems were vastly different. Therefore, it can be said that Japan did not experience a true Middle Ages.

What is medieval Japan called?

This article explores the various periods of Japanese history from 14,000 BC to 1867. It covers the Jomon period, Yayoi period, Heian period, Kamakura period, Muromachi period, Sengoku period and Edo period. During these times there was an influx of new technologies, cultures and ideas which helped shape modern day Japan. Major events such as the rise of bushido and Zen Buddhism are also discussed.
