It’s America at the end of the 19th century. When a meeting with the enigmatic Gyro Zeppeli and a ball enables partially paralyzed ex-jockey Johnny Joestar to momentarily stand again, he chooses to participate in the race called the Steel Ball Run in hopes of walking again. This summarizes the premise of Steel Ball Run, the seventh installment of Hirohiko Araki’s Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure manga, and the newly released teaser trailer for its anime adaptation offers a sneak peek at how everything will be portrayed on screen.
The STEEL BALL RUN Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure trailer reveal was accompanied by the announcement of the cast. There’s Shogo Sakata as Johnny and Yohei Azakami as Gyro, along with Kaito Ishikawa as Diego Brando, Rie Takahashi as Lucy Steel, and Kenta Miyake as Steven Steel.
It was also revealed that Steel Ball Run Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure will debut on Netflix in 2026.

It’s 1890 in America, and the Steel Ball Run — the first horse racing championship across the North American continent — is about to commence. Stretching approximately 4,000 miles, the event offers a 50 million dollar prize for the winner. Johnny Joestar, who was once celebrated as a brilliant jockey, is now paralyzed and engulfed in despair. He discovers hope in the mysterious occurrences caused by Gyro Zeppeli, an outlaw striving to win the race, and resolves to take part in the Steel Ball Run Race. Each pursuing their own aspirations, the duo forms a partnership and embarks on the arduous journey and race.

The Steel Ball Run manga was published from 2004 to 2011, initially serialized in Shonen Jump before transitioning to the monthly, seinen publication Ultra Jump. Future Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure entries are also featured in Ultra Jump, and Viz Media is publishing it in English.
The overall Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure series, which showcases the diverse adventures of the Joestar family, started in 1986. Its ninth segment The JOJOLands was launched in February 2023. The manga inspired an OVA series and a film produced by the now-defunct Another Push Pin Planning, with a new series produced by david production, including an OVA adaptation of the Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan spin-off, commencing in 2012. The Steel Ball Run anime follows the 2022 release of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean.
