©畠中恵・新潮社/アニメ「しゃばけ」製作委員会Shabake is adapted from a historical fantasy novel series authored by Megumi Hatakenaka published under the Shinchosha Bunko label. The main character, Ichitaro, is a frail young master of a prominent store in Edo-era Japan, overseen by supernatural entities. When Ichitaro sneaks out one evening, he witnesses a murder. A series of additional killings ensue, prompting Ichitaro to start an investigation with assistance from his supernatural friends.
The book series was awarded the Excellence Award at the 13th Nihon Fantasy Novel Taishou in 2001.
