A fresh key visual alongside several new cast members has been announced for the currently airing Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho TV anime series, in anticipation of the upcoming Meiji arc. The series premiered in Japan on March 31, 2025, and is slated to run for two consecutive cours encompassing 24 episodes.
Furthermore, the anime’s original voice cast included Taku Yashiro as Jinta, Reina Ueda as Suzune, and Saori Hayami as Shirayuki.
The anime’s official website has also provided an updated broadcast schedule in Japan for Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho. Episode 22 is set to re-broadcast next week on September 15, 2025. Additionally, the final two episodes have been postponed, with the 23rd episode planned for release on September 22, 2025, and the 24th episode on September 29, 2025.
Originally, the anime adaptation was intended to debut in June 2024 but faced production delays, ultimately premiering in March 2025.
Moreover, HIDIVE’s official Twitter/X account has announced a delay for the 22nd episode, yet it remains scheduled for release on its platform on September 8, 2025. Anime News Network reported last week that the streaming service had released a compromised version of the show’s 21st episode, which included “missing frames, filters, and significant graphic effects” caused by “scheduling constraints.”
Kazuya Aiura (Assassin’s Pride) is at the helm of directing the anime, with Deko Akao (Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp) serving as the series screenwriter, Taro Ikegami (Legend of Mana The Teardrop Crystal) in charge of character design, and MONACA’s Ryuichi Takada, Keiichi Hirokawa, and Kuniyuki Takahashi composing the music. The animation production is being handled by Yokohama Animation Lab.
The original fantasy novel series is penned by Moto Nakanishi and illustrated by Tamaki, published by Futabasha from June 21, 2019, to November 22, 2023. A total of fourteen volumes were released in Japan throughout its publication. The novels also inspired a 2021 manga adaptation by Yu Satomi and a stage play. Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed and released both the light novels and manga in English.
The Sword of the Demon Hunter novel series initially began as a web novel in January 2013 on Arcadia, later serialized on Shosetsuka ni Naro. The web novel concluded in October 2016.
