Distributors GKIDS and Fathom Entertainment revealed some thrilling news for Studio Ghibli enthusiasts at Cinemacon today in Vegas: Studio Ghibli Fest will make its comeback to U.S. theaters in June, featuring a diverse selection of favorites from the renowned Japanese animation studio in the 2026 edition of the festival.
Hayao Miyazaki’s beloved 2009 film Ponyo will launch the 2026 edition on June 13. Other notable titles include Goro Miyazaki’s debut feature, Tales from Earthsea, and Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata’s film Only Yesterday, celebrating its 35th Anniversary. Castle in the Sky commemorates its 40th Anniversary, while Hayao Miyazaki’s Academy Award-winning film Spirited Away marks its 25th Anniversary to close the 2026 series. Each of the seven animated features will be screened in both the original Japanese and English dubbed versions, along with special surprise extra content for every showing.

Specialty retailers BoxLunch and Hot Topic will also be celebrating Studio Ghibli Fest 2026, offering a 25% discount for in-store purchases when attendees show their Studio Ghibli Fest 2026 ticket stubs.
This February, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures launched its special exhibition, Studio Ghibli’s Ponyo, celebrating Studio Ghibli and the traditional hand-drawn animation featured in this cherished 2008 film. The exhibition comes four and a half years after the Academy Museum’s inaugural exhibition, Hayao Miyazaki, which honored the artwork of the globally acclaimed director.
