Passion Paris, part of the Academy Award-winning Passion Pictures group, and European VOD platform ADN (Animation Digital Network) have announced their co-production of an animated series adaptation of the globally acclaimed webtoon Hero Killer, directed by David Pagaille. The announcement was made today at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026.
Based on the hit action-fantasy series published by Jaedam Media, created by writer Kkulbeol and illustrator Beolkkul, Hero Killer ranks among the most successful action titles on Naver’s Webtoon, the largest South Korean digital comic and webtoon platform. Available in 10 languages worldwide and comprising over 250 published episodes, the webtoon has enchanted millions of readers with its striking visual style, explosive action, and intricate storytelling. The animated series intends to convey the scale, intensity, and emotion of the original for a global audience.
“What kind of justice exists in a world where those with power cannot be held accountable? What choices are left for those who have nothing? It is these mature, nuanced, and resolutely contemporary questions, at the heart of a blend of action and compelling characters, that ultimately inspired me to bring this story and world to life!” said Pagaille.
Pagaille has built a reputation for combining Japanese anime-inspired storytelling and aesthetics with his unique artistic style. He previously directed the Annie Award-nominated 2024 short Moonlit Bamboo Forest for Passion, set in the universe of the popular game Genshin Impact.
