Crunchyroll has revealed today that it will stream the highly anticipated anime adaptation of Kagurabachi, which is based on the manga by Takeru Hokazono. The series is set to debut in April 2027 and will be available for streaming on Crunchyroll globally, with the exception of Japan, Mainland China, North Korea, and South Korea.
Simultaneously, CyberAgent disclosed the casting of Katsuyuki Konishi as Togo Shiba, alongside the release of a new character trailer and poster. The earlier teaser trailer and visual provide an initial glimpse of the protagonist Chihiro Rokuhira and the magical blade, Enten, as they set the scene for the story’s forthcoming conflict.

The Kagurabachi manga, currently running in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump, has exceeded a total circulation of 4 million copies.

The anime’s production is being managed by CyberAgent’s group company, animation studio Cypic (Umamusume: Cinderella Gray, The Summer Hikaru Died). The creative team comprises director Tetsuya Takeuchi (known for action animation direction on Sword Art Online II, battle scene storyboards/episode director/animation director on Heavenly Delusion) and character designer Keigo Sasaki (Blue Exorcist, The Seven Deadly Sins).
The lead character, Chihiro Rokuhira, will be voiced by Taihi Kimura, who received the Best New Actor accolade at the 2025 Seiyu Awards, along with Tomokazu Seki providing the voice for Kunishige Rokuhira.
Konishi’s role, Togo Shiba, is portrayed as a seasoned sorcerer with a long-standing connection to the Rokuhira family. After Kunishige’s demise, he aids Chihiro in his pursuit of vengeance. His seemingly laid-back demeanor masks an immeasurable inner strength. He was formerly a member of the Kamunabi, the government’s sorcerous organization.
“To me, Shiba embodies the type of person who appears carefree on the outside, yet possesses a strong core and genuine power,” Konishi expressed in the announcement. “I collaborated with the staff to ensure my portrayal wasn’t exaggerated, focusing more on conveying the effortless confidence of someone genuinely powerful. I still added some unconventional touches, though! I hope they help portray Shiba as a refreshing character for the audience. Most importantly, I want you to truly sense how much he cares for the Rokuhira family, both the father and son! It’s certainly a challenging role (lol), but I find it incredibly enjoyable!”
Alongside its broadcast and streaming launch, a “Kagurabachi Anime World Tour” has been confirmed for early episode screenings and panels, bringing the new series to audiences worldwide before its official release. The tour will commence with a World Premiere Screening at Anime Expo in Los Angeles on July 3, followed by stops at Japan Expo in Paris on July 9, AnimagiC in Mannheim, Germany on August 1, Otakon in Washington, DC on August 2, and Anime NYC on August 22.
