Andrew Lloyd Webber’s LW Entertainment & Qubic Pictures Announce Plans for a Potential The Phantom of the Opera Anime

Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s LW Entertainment, previously called The Really Useful Group, announced this week that it is looking into possible opportunities for an anime adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera stage musical in collaboration with Qubic Pictures and its founder Justin Leach.
Leach, who was a co-executive producer on Star Wars: Visions and executive producer of Netflix’s Eden and Leviathan anime series, issued the following statement regarding the new partnership with LW Entertainment:
‍I’m incredibly excited to join forces with the talented team at LW Entertainment to bring The Phantom of the Opera to life through anime. This project is a rare opportunity to unite the grandeur of musical theatre with the artistry of Japanese animation – two beloved traditions that have touched audiences around the world. Our goal is to create a timeless and emotionally resonant experience that speaks to a global audience and honors the legacy of this iconic story.
The new partnership between both companies has been announced as part of a broader “series of new film and TV explorations surrounding The Phantom of the Opera and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s other titles.”
Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera musical first premiered at London’s West End theater in 1986. Several productions have been staged since its premiere, with the 10,000th show being celebrated in 2012 and its 30th anniversary honored in 2018. A new North American production will commence touring in November 2025

It narrates the story of a disfigured musical genius known only as ‘The Phantom’ who lurks within the depths of the Paris Opera House. Enchanted by the talents and beauty of a young soprano – Christine, The Phantom entices her as his protégé and becomes fiercely infatuated with her. Unaware of Christine’s affections for Raoul, The Phantom’s fixation leads to a dramatic turn of events where jealousy, madness, and passions entwine.
