The previous season aired in the Summer 2025 anime season, while the first season debuted in July 2020.

In today’s Japan, “rental” services allow individuals to spend an afternoon with a “friend,” a “parent,” or even a fake girlfriend! Following a shocking betrayal from his girlfriend, struggling freshman Kazuya feels desperate enough to try it out. However, he soon learns how complex it can be to “rent” an emotional connection, and his new “girlfriend,” who is trying to keep her side job under wraps, will find herself panicking when she realizes how her life intersects with Kazuya’s in unexpected ways! As family, school, and life spiral out of control, the story unfolds… A sweet yet naive boy meets a cute yet callous girl in this 21st-century manga romance comedy!
As of September 2025, the manga has been compiled into 42 volumes. In addition to the main manga and anime adaptations, there exists a spin-off titled Kanojo, Hitomishirimasu and a live-action drama from 2022. A visual novel, developed by MAGES, was released in 2024.
