©coolkyousinnjya, Futabasha / Dragon Maid Committee Crunchyroll announced today that it has obtained the global theatrical rights (excluding Asia) for the Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A lonely dragon wants to be loved anime film.
The film will start showing in Japanese theaters on June 27, 2025. It will be presented in Japanese with English subtitles in North America.
Crunchyroll outlines the primary synopsis of the film as follows:
Miss Kobayashi, Tohru, Kanna, and Iruru’s calm existence is disrupted when Kanna’s father, Kamun Kamui, head of the Chaos Forces, shows up and compels her to return to the Dragon World to rectify a past error. With a conflict escalating between Chaos and Harmony, Kanna must find a way to bring the two realms together, but she is caught between her loyalty to her friends and her father’s wishes. Miss Kobayashi, however, is determined to keep her from leaving and attempts to restore Kanna and Kamui’s fractured relationship. As dragons battle, Iruru discovers a secret force orchestrating the war. Can they avert the conflict before it engulfs both realms?
A lonely dragon wants to be loved was revealed last September with Tatsuya Ishihara (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S, Amagi Brilliant Park) serving as the director. Additional personnel involved in the anime film include Yuka Yamada (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S series screenwriter) as scriptwriter, Miku Kadowaki (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S character designer) as character designer and chief animation director, Shingo Kasai (Free!-the Final Stroke-) as background art director, Naomi Takahashi (Free!-the Final Stroke- co-color designer) as color designer, and Hiroki Umeda (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S) as composting director. Kyoto Animation is in charge of the animation production.
The late Yasuhiro Takemoto (Season 1 director) is acknowledged as the series director.
