© 2019 こうの史代・コアミックス / 「この世界の片隅に」製作委員会A fresh visual for the In This Corner of the World anime movie, created by its director Sunao Katabuchi (Black Lagoon), has been revealed in anticipation of its new Japanese limited-engagement screening on August 1 JST.
A teaser for the World War II narrative was also unveiled.
© 2019 こうの史代・コアミックス / 「この世界の片隅に」製作委員会The screening purposefully coincides with the 80th anniversary (in terms of year) of the conclusion of World War II. The MAPPA-produced anime, based on the manga by Fumiyo Kono, originally made its debut in 2016. It later received an updated edition with additional content titled Kono Sekai no [Sara ni Ikutsumono) Katasumi ni in 2019.
The original manga was serialized in Futabasha’s Manga Action from 2007 to 2009 and was initially compiled into three tankoubon volumes. COAMIX later released the manga in a two-part format. Seven Seas Entertainment summarizes the story as:
1940’s Hiroshima Prefecture. Suzu, a young woman from the countryside, joins her new spouse and his family in the shipbuilding city of Kure. As her beautiful home crumbles around her, Suzu must face the trials of a new life while coping with a world in chaos. Refusing to surrender hope, Suzu battles against the horrors of war to forge her own happiness.

The In This Corner of the World anime received numerous accolades, including the Jury Award at Annecy 2017 and Best Animated Work at the 40th Japan Academy Film Prize. A novel adaptation was published in 2016.
The manga has also inspired live-action dramas, which aired in 2011 and 2018.
