Can Japanese marry their sister?
Sibling marriage is illegal in Japan under the Civil Code Chapter 3 Article 733. Although there are some historical accounts of sibling marriages taking place in ancient times, these practices have long been abandoned and are not socially acceptable in contemporary society. Incestuous relationships are considered taboo in many cultures around the world and can have negative consequences for both the individuals involved and their offspring, including genetic abnormalities and psychological effects. It is unlikely that sibling marriages will become legal or socially acceptable anytime soon in Japan.
