Can high schoolers marry in Japan?
In Japan, high schoolers can marry with parental consent or juvenile court approval despite the legal age of marriage being 18. However, child marriage can have detrimental effects on a person's education and future. According to data from the UNFPA, over 37,000 underage girls got married in Japan between 2000 and 2015. Child marriage disproportionately affects girls, and efforts must be made globally to end it by empowering girls through education and advocacy.
