This article examines the history of tattoos in Japan, the different types of Japanese tattoos, and the perception of tattoos by Japanese people today. It notes that although attitudes towards body art have become much more relaxed over time - particularly among younger generations - there are still certain laws regarding getting a tattoo in Japan which vary depending on region. It is important for anyone considering getting a tattoo while visiting Japan to research local laws first before doing so due to cultural differences between countries when it comes body art acceptance levels.
