This article explores the Japanese proposal process, which is rooted in centuries-old traditions. It explains how traditionally it is the man who proposes to the woman he wishes to marry by presenting her with a box containing two rings and small gifts. Additionally, proposals often involve more than just two people - they involve both families and communities as well. There are certain traditional customs that have been passed down through generations when it comes to proposing marriage in Japan such as “shinzen-bi”, which translates literally to “God's day”. In modern times gender roles have become much less rigid but traditionally men were expected take charge when initiating relationships with women by making all decisions related thereto including those pertaining specifically towards proposing marriage itself. The article also discusses the pros and cons of the traditional Japanese proposal process.
