This article examines the current male to female ratio in Japan and the factors that contribute to it. It is estimated that by 2040, the population will be half of what it was in 2010 due to a low fertility rate and aging population. The male-to-female ratio is currently 1:0.88, with more single men than single women living in Japan. Cultural norms around marriage and childbirth as well as economic factors such as job opportunities for women and access to childcare services are contributing to the gender imbalance. In response, both public sector organizations and private sector companies have implemented policies aimed at addressing gender inequality. The implications of this gender imbalance on society and economy include decreased marriage rates, increased poverty levels among elderly women, decreased productivity, and increased competition among employers due to a shortage of workers.
