This article explores the history of Japanese citizenship law and the current regulations regarding automatic citizenship for babies born in Japan. It also looks at the requirements for foreigners to obtain Japanese citizenship, dual citizenship in Japan, and the advantages and disadvantages of becoming a citizen. All babies born on or after April 28th 1950 are automatically granted full rights & privileges associated with being an official citizen provided at least one parent is legally residing within the country during birth registration process. Foreigners must meet certain requirements to obtain Japanese citizenship, including living continuously in Japan for at least five years prior to applying, passing an examination on basic knowledge about life and culture in Japan, demonstrating sufficient financial resources, good moral character, and proficiency in spoken and written Japanese language skills (if applicable).
