This article examines the reasons why most Japanese people do not speak English fluently, despite it being taught in schools for decades. Reasons include cultural differences, an educational system focused on memorization rather than practical application, lack of exposure to the language outside of school or work settings, difficulty pronouncing certain sounds, and fear of making mistakes when speaking with native speakers. Solutions such as providing more opportunities for real-world practice and encouraging conversation clubs are discussed to help improve English language skills among Japanese people.
