This article examines the unique body standards in Japanese culture, including how they differ from Western standards, their history, cultural influences, and the impact of social media. It is shown that traditional geisha makeup and manga have heavily influenced these standards and that there is an idealized beauty which many strive to achieve. Additionally, it is noted that social media can lead to negative views about one's own body and that there is often pressure to conform to certain ideals.
