This article explores the reasons why homelessness is virtually nonexistent in Japan, including government policies and programs, private charities and non-profits, cultural stigmas against poverty, an abundance of affordable rental properties, family support networks and access to free mental health care. These factors have all contributed to the low rate of homelessness in Japan compared with other countries around the world.
