How long do you go to jail for fighting in Japan?
In Japan, engaging in physical violence can lead to jail time depending on the severity of the offense. Factors such as the severity of injuries caused by the fight, presence and/or use of weapons during the fight, age and criminal history of both parties involved, and any mitigating circumstances presented at trial can influence the length of a sentence. Fines may also be imposed upon conviction ranging from several thousand yen up into millions depending on how severe they deem an offence has been committed. Alternatives to jail time include mediation between two parties, suspended sentences, probation orders, community service orders, and victims choosing not to receive compensation.
