This article explores whether there are rough areas in Japan, defined as areas with high crime rates or high levels of poverty and social inequality. While Japan has one of the lowest crime rates in the world, certain areas such as Kabukicho in Tokyo and Nishinari Ward in Osaka have higher crime rates. The Yakuza, a Japanese organized crime syndicate, also contributes to higher crime rates in certain areas. However, Minato Mirai in Yokohama is considered one of the safest areas in Japan. Despite its low crime rates, Japan still takes measures to prevent criminal activity through community policing programs, strong gun control laws, and a focus on rehabilitation rather than punishment for offenders.
