This article explores the meaning and history of the term 'JK', which stands for joshi kousei, or "high school girl" in Japanese. It is commonly used to refer to young women who are of high school age or younger, often in a sexualized way. We looked at some common uses of JK, including hostess clubs and escort services (or soaplands), as well as its origin which dates back to the 1980s when it was first coined by magazine editors targeting male readers.
