This article looks at the various minority groups living in Japan, such as the Ainu, Ryukyuan, Burakumin, Korean and Filipino people. These groups have been present in Japan for centuries and have their own unique cultures, languages and traditions which have contributed to the country's national identity. There are currently around 2.3 million people belonging to minority groups in Japan, representing 1.8% of the population.
