Throughout Japan's long history, there has never been a woman who has ruled the country. From the earliest emperors to the modern-day, political power has been exclusively held by men. While women have made progress in other areas of society, they have yet to break through the glass ceiling of political power. The question remains whether there will ever be a woman who sits on the Chrysanthemum Throne.
