Why do most Japanese people not speak English?
Most Japanese people do not speak English fluently due to historical isolationism, cultural differences, a lack of exposure and motivation, and a focus on other languages such as Chinese or Korean. The Japanese education system also places a stronger emphasis on academic subjects like math and science rather than language learning. While the government has implemented measures to improve English education and encourage students to study abroad for practical experience, mastering the English language is becoming increasingly important for participation in the global economy and society.
