Japanese is an ancient language that has been heavily influenced by other cultures and languages throughout its two-thousand year history. It has adopted kanji characters from Chinese, words from Korean, Portuguese, and more recently English, all of which have helped shape it into what it is today. Despite outside influences, Japanese has remained relatively stable due to its strong cultural identity and is one of the oldest living languages still in use today.
