2. Japan’s Militarism and Expansionism in Asia
Japan had been expanding its power into Asia since the late 19th century when it defeated China in the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-95. This victory enabled them to gain control over Korea and Taiwan which further increased their influence in East Asia. As they gained more power they became increasingly aggressive towards other Asian countries such as China, Thailand and Vietnam which led to more conflicts throughout the region including the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937-45). This aggression also caused fear amongst other nations who were worried about Japanese expansionism into their territories.

The attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan on December 7th 1941 is widely considered to be one of the most important events of World War II as it brought America into the war against Japan. The surprise attack killed 2,403 people and destroyed or damaged 19 U.S naval vessels along with 188 aircrafts which shocked the world and made them realize just how powerful Japan had become during this time period. It also showed just how far they were willing to go for their ambitions which caused even more fear amongst other nations who were worried about what else they could do if provoked further.
