Voice actor Toshiyuki Toyonaga is set to join the voice cast of the currently airing second season of The Apothecary Diaries as Lahan. The second season premiered in Japan on January 10, 2025, and will consist of two consecutive cours totaling 24 episodes.
Lahan is the adopted son of Lakan and is anticipated to debut in the series’ 42nd episode scheduled for May 9, 2025.

The anime’s second season brings back several staff members from the first season. Norihiro Naganuma (who directed and wrote the series in Season 1) is now credited as chief director and screenwriter, while Akinori Fudesaka (assistant director of Season 1) serves as director. Ko Nakagawa, who worked as a storyboard artist and director for certain episodes, takes on the role of assistant director. Character design is handled by Yukiko Nakatani, with color design by Misato Aida, background artwork supervised by Katsumi Takao, and Mayo Suzuki (from The Apothecary Diaries project PV) as the compositing director. TOHO animation STUDIO alongside OLM is responsible for the animation production for this season.
Satoru Kosaki (Vivy -Fluorite Eye’s Song-), Kevin Penkin (Made in Abyss), and Alisa Okehazama (The God of High School) are the music composers.
The main voice cast includes Aoi Yuki as Maomao and Takeo Otsuka as Jinshi. Asami Seto has joined the cast as the maid Shisui.
The anime is adapted from the light novel series authored by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Toko Shino. The first volume was published by Shufunotomo on August 29, 2014, and as of March 2024, the series has released 15 physical volumes, with a 16th volume due for release on May 30, 2025. J-Novel Club is handling the digital release of the light novels in English for North America, while Square Enix publishes the print version of the series.
The series started as a web novel on Shosetsuka ni Naro in October 2011. It was subsequently republished by Shufunotomo in a single volume under its Ray Books imprint.
