A first new main trailer has been unveiled for Mamoru Hosoda’s anticipated anime feature film Scarlet. The film is set to debut in Japan on November 21, 2025, and in the U.S. on December 12, 2025.

The primary voice cast includes Mana ‌Ashida as the heroine, Scarlet, and Masaki ‌Okada as Hijiri. Hosoda is both directing and writing the screenplay for the film. Variety reported that Sony Pictures is co-producing and co-financing Hosoda’s new anime project alongside Studio CHIZU, which is managing the animation production, as well as Nippon TV. Sony Pictures will also release the film in the U.S. and globally, excluding Japan. Earlier last year, the company was reported to be distributing the film worldwide, with Toho managing its distribution in Japan. The narrative focuses on a princess who transcends time and space.

Meanwhile, Comic Natalie cited Hosoda during Scarlet‘s announcement event stating that the film is in “neither 2D nor a Hollywood-style CG animation” and that its thematic exploration will delve into life and death, incorporating elements of action and romance.
