The anime is adapted from the light novel series published by Alphapolis, which is written by Kogitsunemaru and illustrated by Hitogome, starting in 2018 and currently has 17 volumes as of December 2024. Additionally, there is a manga illustrated by Taro Sasakama, which Alpha Manga describes as:
Not even a hero, Takumi Iruma finds himself inadvertently joined with a group of heroes chosen to be summoned to another world. As compensation for the error, a goddess presents him with the option to select any skill he desires! Aspiring for a tranquil and untroubled life devoid of battles, he chooses a seemingly mundane creation skill. However, it becomes apparent that “alchemy” is the most formidable skill, enabling him to craft everything from a holy sword to airships! This cheat skill he unwittingly gains transforms him into a wealthy merchant and makes him invincible in combat!
