KyoAni Unveils New 'Sparks of Tomorrow' Pre-Broadcast Preview

More voice cast details were also disclosed.

Sparks of Tomorrow is set to make its Japan broadcast debut on July 5 via Tokyo MX (Sundays at 23:00), BS11 (Sundays at 23:30), ABCT TV (Sundays at 24:40), and TV Aichi (Sundays at 25:20), while streaming worldwide on Netflix on the same day (new episodes drop Sundays at 23:00 JST).

The new series has been acclaimed as a “new frontier” for KyoAni (Violet Evergarden, Tsurune, Free!, Sound! Euphonium), showcasing impressionistic backgrounds and intricately expressive animation “that bring to life the aspirations of a young boy and girl, igniting a tumultuous age of revolution.”

The series stars Yuma Uchida (Rai in Cosmic Princess Kaguya!, Megumi in Jujutsu Kaisen) as Kihachi Sakamoto and Sora Amamiya (Chizuru in Rent-a-Girlfriend, Aqua in Konosuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!) as Inako Momokaawa, along with Koki Uchiyama as Yosuke Mizoe, Daisuke Ono as Seiroku Sakamoto, Shunsuke Takeuchi as Kengo Kuga, Minako Kotobuki as Noriko Momokawa, You Taichi as Suzu Harashima, Natsumi Kawaida as Kate Okura, Kazuki Ura as Yajiro Yagura and Daisuke Hirakawa as Izo Masabuchi.

Synopsis: In an alternate version of the early 20th century where technological advancement took a different trajectory influenced by steam power, Kyoto is enshrouded in perpetual smoke.

A boy, shaped by the loss of his brother, becomes wary after their shared vision of an “Age of Electricity” is abruptly halted. A deeply devoted girl conceals her dreams and sorrow for her departed mother within her heart. When these two individuals intersect, they embark on a journey to unveil the secrets of the 20th Century Electrical Catalog, a glimpse into the future they yearn for.

Together, they must face their histories and forge a path towards the future they once dreamed of.

Sparks of Tomorrow is produced by Kyoto Animation and directed by Minoru Ota (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, Tsurune), with series composition by Tatsuhiko Urahata (Cue!, Sakura Wars: The Animation), character design/chief animation direction by Kohei Okamura (Sound! Euphonium, Violet Evergarden), world building by Takaaki Suzuki (Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction, Violet Evergarden) and music by Hitomi Koto.
