Netflix Unveils ‘Sparks of Tomorrow’ from KyoAni; ‘Baki-Dou’ Announces Premiere Date

Netflix has unveiled two significant anime announcements today, inviting fans to immerse themselves in a new magical world crafted by the talented team at Kyoto Animation and revealing the official premiere date for an exciting martial arts action series set to debut next month.

Adapted from the manga 20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku by Hiro Yuki (published by KA Esma Bunko), Sparks of Tomorrow is an upcoming steampunk series that will grace Netflix in July 2026. Marking a new venture for Kyoto Animation, this anime showcases breathtaking, impressionistic backgrounds and highly expressive animation that depict the aspirations of a young boy and girl, igniting a tumultuous era of revolution.

Synopsis: In a reimagined early 20th century where technological advancements diverge along a steam-powered path, Kyoto remains shrouded in relentless smoke.

A boy, embittered by the loss of his brother, becomes wary after their shared aspiration of an “Age of Electricity” is abruptly extinguished. A deeply religious girl conceals her dreams and sorrows for her lost mother deep within her soul. When fate unites them, they embark on a journey to uncover the mysteries of the 20th Century Electrical Catalog, offering a glimpse into the future they both yearn for.

Together, they must face their histories and forge a new path to the future they once cherished.

Sparks of Tomorrow is produced by Kyoto Animation and helmed by Minoru Ota (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, Tsurune), with series composition by Tatsuhiko Urahata (Cue!, Sakura Wars: The Animation), character design and chief animation direction by Kohei Okamura (Sound! Euphonium, Violet Evergarden), world-building by Takaaki Suzuki (Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction, Violet Evergarden), along with music by Hitomi Koto.

The voice cast features Yuma Uchida (Rai in Cosmic Princess Kaguya!, Megumi in Jujutsu Kaisen) as Kihachi Sakamoto and Sora Amamiya (Chizuru in Rent-a-Girlfriend, Aqua in Konosuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!) as Inako Momokaawa.

BAKI-DOU: The Invincible Samurai Additionally, Netflix’s anime division revealed that the new series BAKI-DOU: The Invincible Samurai will be attacking screens on February 26. Based on Keisuke Itagaki’s BAKI-DOU, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion from 2014 to 2018, this action-packed title is produced by TMS Entertainment (Baki, Baki Hanma).

Synopsis: The new series continues after the most intense father-son brawl on Earth. With no formidable foes remaining, Baki and his fellow seasoned fighters spiral into boredom—until a scheme is put in motion to resurrect Musashi Miyamoto, the greatest swordsman in Japan’s past. An extraordinary showdown between a revived legendary samurai in contemporary times and the strongest underground fighter will be animated with breathtaking visuals.

An unpredictable confrontation between two combatants from vastly different times awaits!
