AnimEigo and MediaOCD have revealed that the Blu-ray for the Romeo’s Blue Skies TV anime series will hit the shelves on July 29, 2025. The show had a run of 33 episodes from January 15, 1995, to December 17, 1995.
This Blu-ray release is the first time that Romeo’s Blue Skies will be available in English, presented in a remastered widescreen format. The series was previously shown in several countries including Italy, Spain, Morocco, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Qatar, Indonesia, South Korea, Bahrain, Iran, and the U.A.E.

The production of the 33-episode series was undertaken in 1995 by Nippon Animation and directed by Kozo Kusuba, featuring a screenplay by Michiru Shimada and character designs from Yoshiharu Soto. The series is part of Nippon Animation’s World Masterpiece Theater collection and falls under AnimEigo’s Ruined Childhood line.
The anime is adapted from Lisa Tetzner’s 1941 Swiss novel Die Schwarzen Brüder (which is translated as The Black Brothers).
AnimEigo offers the following synopsis for Romeo’s Blue Skies:
Romeo, a young boy from a financially struggling Swiss village, takes the brave step of selling himself into servitude as a chimney sweep in order to help his family. While traveling to Milan, he befriends a mysterious boy named Alfredo. Life as a chimney sweep proves to be challenging and perilous, but with each other’s support, and with aid from new friends known as the “Black Brothers,” Romeo and Alfredo embark on a quest for a better future.
