The show’s newly created official English Twitter/X account also confirmed that the anime will launch outside Japan on July 6, 2025 in “U.S. time.” Amazon additionally has a listing of the show available on its website.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Amazon Prime Video would provide exclusive streaming of the series in Japan. The series is scheduled to begin streaming and airing in Japan on July 7 at 12:30 AM JST.
Taichi Ishidate (Violet Evergarden and Violet Evergarden the Movie, Nichijou assistant director) is at the helm of directing the anime series, with Tamami Tokuyama (character designer and animation director on the 2021 “Souzou-hen” commercial) acting as character designer and chief animation director, Kana Miyata (Nichijou, Beyond the Boundary) serving as color designer, Shiori Yamazaki (“Souzou-hen” background art) as background art director, Hiroki Ueda (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S) as composting director, Tatsunori Kase (Sound! Euphonium Season 3 assistant 3D director) handling the 3D direction, and Yota Tsuruoka (Nichijou, MONOGATARI Series OFF & MONSTER Season) as sound director. Kyoto Animation is responsible for the animation production.
CITY The Animation is an adaptation of the surreal comedy slice-of-life manga created by Nichijou‘s Keiichi Arawi, which was serialized in Kodansha’s Morning magazine from September 29, 2016, to February 4, 2021. Thirteen tankobon volumes were published as of April 2021. The manga returned to serialization in the same magazine after a three-year hiatus on December 12, 2024.

From Keiichi Arawi, the beloved creator of Nichijou, this surreal slapstick series focuses on a broke college student, Midori Nagumo, who resides in an ordinary city populated by somewhat extraordinary individuals. As this impulsive girl dashes around, she causes the city to come alive.
Midori finds herself in a predicament. In debt, her landlady is pressuring her for unpaid rent. Even her best friend has become wise to her schemes and refuses to lend her money. Perhaps some intimidation could work? Or a little petty crime? Yet neither is feasible long-term. Maybe securing a job would resolve her issues… But working cuts into her time for enjoying the adventures of city life…
