Kenshi Yonezu‘s “KICK BACK,” the opening theme for the Chainsaw Man TV anime, has achieved the distinction of being the first Japanese-language song to obtain a Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The Platinum certification is awarded to songs that have surpassed one million units sold. “KICK BACK” previously earned the Gold certification (indicating at least 500,000 units sold) in 2023.
Initially released in October 2022, the song gained significant traction on various charts, securing the top position on Billboard Japan’s Hot Animation and Hot 100 charts, while also breaking into the top 20 of the UK’s Official Rock & Metal Singles Chart and the top 30 of Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. Additionally, it made its way onto Spotify’s Global Top 50, marking a first for a Japanese artist.
