This article explores the Japanese religion of Shintoism and its gods and goddesses, known as Kami. It looks at the history of Shintoism, how it has been practiced since 500 BCE, and how it is mixed with Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism. It also discusses some of the most popular figures in Japanese mythology such as Amaterasu (the sun goddess), Izanagi & Izanami (the creators of the islands), Hachiman (God of War & Protector of Japan) and Susanoo (God of Storms). Finally, it highlights the importance of these gods/goddesses who have been revered throughout history by millions around world even today.
