Image source: SteamLast year, the Girls Band Cry anime staff shared their vision of what the upcoming game would look like: a 2D platformer called Momoka (o) Wasshoi, where the player aims to deliver a tipsy Momoka — lifted by Nina and Subaru — to her couch. There was also a livestream, but that still didn’t prepare me for the humorous game securing an actual Steam release on September 29 JST.
The game consists of two stages: one where you transport Momoka while dodging obstacles with your jumps, and another where you attempt to launch Momoka onto her moving sofa. For some odd reason, the characters are miniaturized, making them navigate equally tiny stools and chairs, as well as incoming beer cans.
The Steam launch was initially announced on September 14 JST, alongside a plan for a presence at the now-ended Tokyo Game Show 2025. Despite appearing like a free fan game, Momoka (o) Wasshoi comes with a price: it’s currently US$2.80 until October 13 JST, thanks to a 20% launch discount.
The genuine, non-joke Girls Band Cry game was recently unveiled as Girls Band Cry First Riff. Additionally, an announcement was made about a Girls Band Cry anime movie, which is a new project distinct from the forthcoming two-part compilation film.

Girls Band Cry is a venture from Toei Animation that commenced in 2023. The TV anime premiered in April 2024, while the compilations will debut on October 3, 2025 JST, and November 14, 2025 JST. Toei Animation describes the premise of Girls Band Cry as follows:
The main character drops out of high school in her second year, and aims to enter a university while working alone in Tokyo. A girl is betrayed by her friends and struggles with what to do. Another girl is abandoned by her parents and tries to survive in the city through part-time jobs. This world constantly lets us down. Nothing goes as planned. But we yearn for something we can continue to cherish. We believe there’s a place where we belong. That’s why we sing.
