The forthcoming Elegy for the Henchmen: Fist of the North Star (Hokuto no Ken: Kenogun Zako-tachi no Banka), which is based on a Fist of the North Star gag manga, marks the initial release from this label.
As per a press release, the Animatica label aims to deliver greater “emotional movements” compared to current motion comics, while also enhancing direction and incorporating video processing that aligns with the informational intensity of a scene.
The announcement also mentions an innovative production method that manages both costs and production time for anime, showcasing “the possibilities of new animation styles” and indicates intentions for ongoing technology development.
The mention of costs and production timelines mirrors the scenario surrounding the “light anime” — essentially motion comics under a trendier label — of the AnimationID brand, a collaborative effort between Imagica Infos and Dai Nippon Printing (DNP). Imagica Infos noted that the term originated from the initiative’s response to “consumer needs” for swift enjoyment of diverse anime and its goal to produce lower-cost anime efficiently.
