Following its triumphant 30th anniversary theatrical run, AMC Networks’ Sentai has revealed a new 4K adaptation of Ninja Scroll, the highly regarded anime drama film set in the samurai era during the Edo period of feudal Japan. First launched in 1993, the feature (known as Jubei Ninpucho in Japanese) was both penned and directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri, and is now recognized as a landmark creation in anime cinema.

In Summer 2024, Sentai in conjunction with AMC Networks’ anime streaming service HIDIVE will present Ninja Scroll in over 500 theaters throughout the U.S. in collaboration with Iconic Events Releasing as part of its AX Cinema Nights series. This revival commemorates 30 years since the film’s debut.
Led and produced by Sentai under the guidance of Kawajiri, the digital adaptation of Ninja Scroll underwent a careful restoration and remastering process — involving a 4K scan (3840 × 2160 pixels) of the original 35mm negative that included damage repair and color correction to yield an archival quality digital master of the movie.

The world premiere of Ninja Scroll in 4K is scheduled for Sunday, February 15 at 10 p.m. CET during Berlinale, the 76th Berlin International Film Festival, with encore screenings on February 16 & 22. The film is one of ten presentations from nine various countries and the inaugural anime film included in the Berlinale Classics section of the festival’s lineup. Beyond Berlinale, fans can catch the 4K version of Ninja Scroll when Sentai launches the film as a limited edition Blu-ray Steel Book in 4K UHD in early 2027.
